Water recovery and reuse

Process effluent, greywater, rainwater and pool water: four streams that end up in the drain today and can go back in.

Water recovery and reuse

Much of the water leaving a facility can be recovered and used again. We design the whole process —effluent characterisation, treatment, integration into the circuits and control— so that recovered water replaces mains water wherever the quality allows.

What it covers

Industrial processes

Any effluent, treated to measure so it goes back into the process.

We design and deliver bespoke engineering solutions to recover, treat and reuse industrial effluent. Every project starts from a detailed analysis of the production process and the characterisation of the discharge, and covers feasibility studies, the design and sizing of physico-chemical, biological and advanced treatments (reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, MBR), the integration of the recovered water into process circuits, automation and monitoring, and compliance with discharge limits. We work with food, chemical, paper, textile, metallurgical and automotive sectors. This line produced patent ES2877850B2, for regenerating the water used to wash and disinfect food packaging so it can be reused in evaporative cooling circuits.

Greywater and rainwater

Showers, basins and condensate return as cistern flushing, irrigation or pool water.

We recover light greywater —water from showers, basins and air-conditioning condensate— and, with no chemicals involved, put it back to use inside the building itself: flushing cisterns, irrigation or filling pools. Hydraloop® technology treats it in six stages: sedimentation, flotation, dissolved air flotation, foam fractionation, aerobic bioreactor and ultraviolet disinfection. The units are self-cleaning, need only one preventive check a year, and their performance is monitored remotely around the clock. It is the answer for hotels, residential buildings and sports centres.

SUDS

Green infrastructure that captures, slows and infiltrates rainwater.

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems are green, hybrid or modular infrastructures that manage rainwater at source: capturing, slowing, infiltrating, conveying, treating and storing it. They reduce the run-off that ends up in sewers, storm tanks or treatment plants, cut solids carry-over and run-off pollution, and are fully compatible with conventional urban stormwater systems. Every project is treated as unique: the design sets out to mitigate the impact of urban development by reproducing the behaviour of the natural water cycle as closely as possible.

Swimming pools

Recovering filter backwash water instead of discharging it.

Filter backwash is by far the biggest loss in a swimming pool: it goes down the drain several times a week, already heated and already treated. We recover it, treat it and return it to the pool or divert it to other uses on site, so that the mandatory renewal stops meaning throwing away hot water. The project starts with a technical audit of the recirculation and renewal systems, and is completed with optimised water and energy use in filtration and sensors tracking chlorine, pH, temperature, turbidity, conductivity and consumption in real time, with automatic alarms, remote management and automatic dosing control. All in line with Spanish Royal Decree 742/2013.
